Resumo:
- Many studies have indicated that the 21 century is a period of changes. In this scenario, the disputes for the access and control over natural resources become stronger and the rural development strategies a contested arena. Although the lack of agreement, it must do deal with rural poverty and environmental sustainability. The Sustainable Rural Livelihoods Approach helps to understand the personal, socioeconomic, political and ecological environment where people find themselves and that determine their livelihood strategies. This understanding also helps in the analysis of outcomes coming from the strategies and how much they are sustainable. The general objective of this research is to understand the diversity and range of rural livelihood strategies among Family Farmers on the Amazon frontier of Mato Grosso including outcomes, recent changes and relevant policy and institutional influences. This research will provide a baseline to draw possible future scenarios and to develop more assertive interventions that could strengthen family agriculture in the region, either by public policies or no-government institutions.
